At Maverick Construction, we believe that building something meaningful goes far beyond the materials and measurements—it’s about creating spaces that bring people together. One of our most exciting and unique projects to date was designing and constructing a custom pavilion for the Bluff Fest Music Festival at the scenic Bluff Valley Campground.
This project gave us the opportunity to blend craftsmanship with creativity and contribute something lasting to a community event that celebrates music, connection, and the great outdoors.
Bluff Fest is an annual celebration of music, good vibes, and community spirit. Hosted at Bluff Valley Campground, the festival draws in musicians, families, and outdoor enthusiasts from all over the region. The event was rapidly growing, and it became clear that the festival needed a permanent, professional-grade shelter for bands to perform in—one that could handle the elements and elevate the overall festival experience.
We worked closely with the organizers to understand their needs: a durable, weather-resistant structure that would offer protection from rain, sun, and wind, while also looking visually appealing and fitting into the natural beauty of the campground. It also needed to have great acoustics, practical staging space, and a solid layout to accommodate a variety of performers.
We started from scratch—literally. The project kicked off with site prep and a poured concrete foundation designed to withstand Minnesota’s freeze-thaw cycles and provide long-lasting stability. From there, we framed a custom timber structure, engineered for both strength and style. The exposed trusses give the shelter a rustic, open-air feel that blends perfectly with the natural surroundings of Bluff Valley, while also supporting the wide roof span needed to cover full bands and equipment.
For the roofing, we used high-quality metal panels designed for durability and weather resistance, ensuring protection no matter what the forecast brings. The roof pitch was carefully calculated for both aesthetic impact and practical drainage, with extended overhangs for added shade and shelter.
The interior of the shelter was built with bands in mind. We included elevated decking, electrical hookups, and ample space for staging equipment, instruments, and sound systems. The layout allows for quick transitions between sets while providing musicians with everything they need to put on a great show. Thoughtful details—like integrated lighting mounts and side walls for wind block—helped make the shelter not just a structure, but a stage built with intention.
When Bluff Fest rolled around, the new pavilion took center stage—literally and figuratively. Artists and festivalgoers alike were blown away by the transformation. The structure provided not only a visually stunning focal point but also a reliable, comfortable space for performers to bring their music to life.
This new addition significantly elevated the production quality of the event and set the tone for future festivals at Bluff Valley. It’s more than just a building—it’s a space designed to foster creativity, celebration, and shared experiences year after year.
